It's that time again. Time to register for the USA's premier animal rights conference, AR2008. This year, the conference will be held in Alexandria, Virginia (a short distance from Washington DC) on August 14 - 18.
This year in addition to hosting an exhibit space at the conference, WAR organizer, Camille Hankins, will be speaking on several panels including "Paths to Liberation" at Friday evening's plenary session. In addition, Camille will be speaking on panels including reports on vivisection campaigns, the status of the campaign against Huntingdon Life Sciences, Effective Campaigning and topics relating to Prisoner Support and the "Green Scare". See the conference program here:
http://www.arconference.org/program.htm
Throughout the conference, during the social hours, we will be hosting skill share sessions on hunt sabotage, security culture, global campaigns and other important animal liberation topics. Details on these off-schedule sessions will be available at our exhibit space throughout the run of the conference. On Monday, August 18, 2008, Win Animal Rights will be organizing and hosting the conference demos in nearby Washington, DC. So, if you can, please try to stay for Monday's activities. As you can see, this will be the most action packed and exciting conference ever.

URGENT: NEPALESE MONKEY EXPORTS
Note from WAR: The Nepalese Consulate Office is located at Second Avenue and 44th Street in New York City. In order to maximize our effectiveness we would need to stage protests during business hours on weekdays. If you are a student, teacher, unemployed or on vacation and you would like to help us with this critical campaign, please contact us at: centcom@war-online.org/ or call 646-267-9934. Meanwhile, please make sure to read this email and act on it. Send emails, letters or make phone calls as indicated below.

Forgive out intrusion on to your list, but we com with an urgent message which we hope you will be able to support. As anyone who's involved with the SHAC campaign, (as the Coalition Anti-Vivisection is), knows that W.A.R are the group to ask if you need protests on the streets of NYC!
So here goes...
Urgent protests are needed to prevent the exportations of Nepalese Rhesus Macaque Monkeys to American vivisection laboratories. The law was first introduced by the King of Nepal in 2003, (mainly due to financial bribes from American researchers), however a new government has now been elected in Nepal and this means we can put the pressure on them to stop the exports. The first monkeys are due to be shipped in September of this year, (2008), and we must do EVERYTHING possible to stop that from happening!
India banned experimentation on rhesus monkeys in 1977 after images of gruesome radiation experiments on monkeys, who are sacred to many Indians, were published in the media. As a result US research institutes have faced a shortage of rhesus monkeys and their breeding colonies are now nearly exhausted.
Rhesus macaques are the test subject of choice for many biomedical and behavioral research laboratories because they are physiologically similar to humans and due to their willingness to breed in captivity. The "Indian Type" rhesus monkey, (as found in Nepal), has been used extensively in research on human blood chemistry, and the Rh factor in blood derives its name from them.
The rhesus monkey is also a popular choice for use in bio-warfare/bio-terrorism research and with the current US "War on Terror" the demands for rhesus monkeys for use in research laboratories has never been higher!
This exposes a weakness in the vivisection industry that we as a globalized animal rights movement must be ready to exploit. By elevating the price of a rhesus monkey we will force the vivisectors to consider substitutive, (non-animal), methods as a cheaper alternative to performing barbaric experiments on highly intelligent and sentient beings such as rhesus monkeys.
"Where....a few years ago you might have paid $2,000 for a rhesus monkey, now the price can be anywhere from $5,000 to $12,000." - John P. Hearn
Primate Researcher and Vice Chancellor of the Australian National University
However, if a religious country such as Nepal begins to successfully export primates then this clears the way for other religious nations, (such as India), to rejoin the primate supply industry. Therefore Nepal has become the battlefield for the animal rights movement against the use of primates in experiments!
There have already been protests at numerous Nepalese embassies and consulates in Europe, but these alone will not be enough! To ensure these exports are stopped we need protests all over the world, hence why we are contacting you in NYC as you also have a Nepalese embassy there (and doubtless you also have contacts in Washington, DC)
Here are the contact details for the Nepalese embassies in NYC & DC;

Please distribute this information to all your contacts and if there is anyway you can arrange any protests at the embassies in NYC or Washington DC then please do so as soon as humanly possible!
The situation is now critical and your support is desperately needed. Do not underestimate the significance of t his campaign because we can win and if we do it will be a MAJOR blow to the vivisectors who only have Nepal to turn to for the Indian type rhesus monkeys they desperately need!
